What does it take to believe?
How does one break free
From the lies of this culture?
We search for answers within ourselves
But what if we are the problem?
Many are falling away
But many genuinely want to believe
Sometimes both are true of the same person
How do we support those
Who have genuine concern
For the destruction caused by some leaders?
How do we restore faith once lost?
I have deconstructed my culture
But this has made God more real to me
I think the problems are in the math
We are ambitious in our efforts
To bring the lost to Christ
Maybe we are too good at attracting people to church
It might be better to just focus on a few
And really support them in the faith
It is true that we are to celebrate
Each soul as it comes back to God
But all of us are equal before God
We need to do everything for believers
As we all face similar spiritual attacks
And have much in common
As we face similar obstacles and challenges
We are mostly weak in the same areas
We need to be better at supporting each other
Many churches are already doing this well
But as churches seek revival
My concern is that we stay small enough
That everyone feels equal in value
But also has enough support
That they don’t feel they are in this alone
We need to fight with everything we have
For both our souls and those of others
No one is past saving
And doubt often makes faith deeper
We should see what we worry about
To inspire us to look to God more
Please heal our country, God
And restore trust in Your Church
Even as we continue to make bad choices
Individually and as groups of Christians
Please make us better examples
Make us welcoming to others
Who sin differently than we do
Please let us stop fearing the future
And let us see through Your eyes
Let us reimagine the way we approach life and relationships
Do not let us lose these important spiritual battles
Inspire us to pray, read the Bible and go to church more often
Give us time and energy to listen to you
Motivate us to be willing to make sacrifices
So that we make the right decisions
Please also show us when we need rest
Please give us the wisdom to not make commitments
That we are not prepared to follow through on
God, what is the secret ingredient in overcoming the world?
Do we need more patience?
Do we not care enough?
How can we show others across cultural divides
That the battle lies elsewhere?
How can we be a Church that works as one
Despite the multitude of divisions in our society?
We live or lived in a country where we thought we had influence
But it may be time to accept
This is not a strategy for positive change
I am encouraged with the love
I have been shown in my church and family
Despite my opposite views on almost all issues
We often think the worse thing to happen to us is pain
But the worst thing would be for Christ to return
When we are committing a sin
